A colourful still life depicting a bowl of fruit by enigmatic Swedish artist, Björn Marcus Rosendal (1923-2016).
Rosendal was an intelligent multi-disciplinarian that filled his days with science and the arts. Alongside his endeavours as a painter, he also worked as a highly respected physician and creative writer. In many ways, his approach to life reminds me of Leonardo’s unabating curiosities.
During the 1950s/60s, his work was shown extensively - including exhibitions in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Paris, New York and Ireland. Today, he’s represented in several museums and remains a popular artist for collectors worldwide. The painting is signed/dated in the lower right.
