An attractive oil on board depicting the interior of a timber-framed Scandinavian cottage. The artist, Eskil Skans (1905–1989), has chosen a viewpoint that encompasses two rooms with the second being flooded by light.
An open doorway provides a glimpse through into the sunlit room where a vase of flowers is positioned by a window. These seem to echo those found in the first room, which is an interesting aspect of the composition.
Skans was the son of a major in the Salvation Army and he studied in Malmö between 1923 and 1927. He began exhibiting his works during the 1940s and he’s represented at the Kristianstads museum.
The painting is signed/dated in the lower right and housed in its original frame.
