A beautifully bright landscape painting, which is bursting with coastal vibrancy by Swedish artist, Hugo Öfverström (1900-1972).
Öfverström loved painting the gorgeous scenery around the Bohuslän Coast of West Sweden. It’s regarded as a national treasure due to its mix of 3,000 craggy islands, picturesque fishing villages and floral splendour. Island hopping is a popular pastime for visitors and you can imagine the artist tracking down his favourite spot before sketching throughout the day.
In this piece, which is on a large scale, he’s depicted the brightly coloured coastal flora with a skilful impressionistic touch. Pops of pink, orange, blue, yellow and green emerge through quick confident marks.
Hugo Öfverström is considered to be a master of painting the Bohuslän archipelago and this is a good example of his work.
