A light-filled summertime scene depicting the island of Bornholm, by Swedish artist, Karl Stig Börje Jonzon (1913-1987).
Bornholm is a popular tourist destination which is situated to the east of Denmark. It’s also known as ‘Sunshine Island’ due to its pleasant weather and geology. Perhaps Jonzon knew this area well and captured this scene while enjoying a break from the Swedish mainland.
Jonzon studied under Ivan Hoflund and spent many years in Paris, France. His works were exhibited in several high profile galleries and he’s represented in at least two museums.
The painting is signed/dated in the lower right.
